Apple Tree

Apple Tree

“The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb

One afternoon, on my way home riding a bus with a friend, my friend asked me a question. I don’t remember her exact words but the memory of my reply was vivid. I answered her, “To live a life without regrets.”

Whenever idle time falls on my lap, which has been frequent the past year and until now, the usual question I found asking myself is, “Have I been a living a life without regrets?” “No,” was my usual reply. I have placed a lot of my plans in the backseat and frequent procrastination gave birth to many “if only’s.”

If only I invested my money in the stock market twenty years ago and not placed all of it in a savings account, then I should be richer by now. If only I decided to get into the “Joy of Writing” class earlier, then, I could be writing better now. If only I studied and took the course on the environment when I visualized the demand for it in the future which is already the present then maybe, I would be leaving a more significant mark in the world starting now. If only…

Good thing that like time, second chances also fell on my lap. Determined to live a life without regrets, I grabbed these second chances by the hand, gripped them hard and did not let them slip through my fingers.

I started to act on my plans. I got myself a mentor (more than two years ago) to teach me the right way to invest in the stock market, I went ahead and attended the “Joy of Writing” class and who knows?, maybe I would take that environmental course if I should decide that it is still something that I want.

True, the fruits of these undertakings are not low-hanging yet but the thought of replying “Yes,” to the question, Have I been living a life without regrets?,” already make these all worth it.
